Nooshi

Wed 6 June 2007

I don't eat out in Headingley enough. Drinking - that's a different matter because Arcadia is so good, but eating - hardly ever.

I an attempt to redress my city-centre bias last week I headed off to Nooshi. Actually, (ex)Housemate and I wanted something quick and cheap, and I had a cold so something spicy fitted the bill.

After 5pm, Nooshi offers a dinner deal - a noodle box plus a beer for £6 (unless you go for duck or seafood, in which case it's £6.50). (ex)Housemate went for the hoisin duck noodles (without vege - so they will customise your order) and I opted for the spicy chicken and vegetable.

I'll leave aside the fact that the spicy chicken and vegetable contained mini-corn (this is the devil's food) and focus on the rest of the dish. Actually, there's not really a lot to say. There wasn't really a lot of chicken in it, the veggies were unexciting and the sauce tasted a lot like sweet chilli sauce: a bit too sweet and cloying for me.

Nooshi specialises in noodles and sushi, but also offers juices, smoothies, green tea and ice cream. I'd probably nip in to try out their sushi, but when it comes to more noodles I'll probably be heading back to Fuji Hiro in ... the city centre.

It seems that Nooshi haven't been too busy winning over fans and aficionados of Asian food: Sourrain was also a bit underwhelmed.

It's strangely cloying and tasteless at the same time isn't it?

I think redchilli does ace noodles as well - definately more authentic than your average takeaways. For excellent value and delicious, do not miss Tong Garden's Seafood Udon.£9 is a little steep but its chockfull of scallops and prawns and portions big enough to feed two!

I am always promotion Tong Gardens aren't i?

I don't think I've had noodles at Red Chilli but next time I go I'll try to remember to check them out. I went through a stage of feeling like I went there all the time, so I've been trying to avoid it and try new places (plus, I sometimes find their food a little salty!).

However - Tong Garden's seafood udon sounds like it could well hit the spot ... it's another restaurant that's been on my 'list' ...

If you want high quality sushi and japanese cuisine then Sisushi on Great George Street (off millennium square) is the place to go. Really cool chilled out vibe, excellent service and the food is fantastic!

Sisushi has been on my list for quite a while, although I've heard it's quite expensive. Still, I'm not sure that should stop me popping by for lunch one day!

Hmm, sounds like I'll give Nooshi's sushi a miss then ... especially now I have Andy trained up AND he has his own left handed sushi knife!

s there no way to stop nooshi posting positive reviews of themselves, they could at least make them look realistic....unlike this one...
eg..

Hi Eric ... hmmm, you might have a point. Until your comment I hadn't noticed how many anonymous comments praised Nooshi.

I really, really don't want to censor comments unless they're obviously spam - so I guess that means we have to put up with comments like this.

However, let me go on record and say that I think it's a great shame when people do things like this. I love to receive feedback from establishments I visit: if you think I'm wrong about something - please tell me! I'm sure you'll find that readers are always interested to know both sides of any story too!

alex, thanks for posting my comment, of course there's no way to know for sure when an establishment posts fake reviews of themselves but totally agree on your comment about feedback from establishments.
They can in effect get free advice and pointers for improvement by taking on board criticism and responding to it.
They can also be seen as engaging with people and show a human side which is missing far too much these days.
